Infrastructure

The purpose of government is to provide services when the market cannot or will not due to lack of profits. Infrastructure is the most basic role of government, unless all roads are tolled and we pay to flush our toilets! When the government, at any level, fails to provide and maintain necessary and critical infrastructure, this is a crime. I will ensure that negligence, delayed maintenance, and limited budgets for infrastructure are met with consequences. 

Public Health

Infrastructure is critical to public health; without a highly maintained sewage system, water treatment facilities, and the ancillary natural barriers to water contamination, the health of the general population is at grave risk. Our water systems in the State of Iowa are in peril which jeopardizes the lives and longevity of our people here, now. Black Hawk County must be on the frontlines to force the Iowa Legislature to deal with the water crisis in our State that prohibits all of us from enjoying our natural waterways, recreation areas, and even showering with peace of mind.

Community Growth

Black Hawk County has a stagnant population trend, with slight increases and decreases year over year. Our county is at risk of falling into irrelevance in our state. We must diversify our economic investment portfolio, rein in our urban sprawl for better walking/biking communities, and refrain from chasing “silver bullet” solutions to our county predicament. Many industries will promise that their business will create lots of jobs, bring in the youth, all the while taking our public tax dollars and outsourcing labor. With good social research, we can craft policies that benefit local labor, public health, social development, and stabilize our county’s economic future.
